Huawei has signalled its intent to continue developing its UK business after striking an exclusive $1.2m partnership with Currys PC World to launch its smartwatch range.
The Chinese technology giant has been without a UK retail partner since parting ways with Carphone Warehouse last year, but the new deal will see Currys sell Huawei’s smartwatches in its stores from September.
Huawei Consumer Business Group CEO Richard Yu said: “This is an important step for Huawei as we continue to invest in and grow our UK business.
“Our smartwatches are among the best on the market and we believe that partnering with Currys PC World, one of the UK’s largest and most trusted retailers, will help us to reach even more consumers.”
The partnership is a significant coup for Currys PC World, which is looking to bolster its smartwatch offering as the market for wearable devices continues to grow.
Announcing the deal, Currys PC World’s head of products and services, Alistair Field said: “We are delighted to be partnering with Huawei on their smartwatch range.
“Our customers are increasingly looking for wearable technology that can complement their busy lifestyles and we believe that Huawei’s smartwatches tick all the boxes.”
The smartwatches will be available to buy in Currys PC World stores from September, with prices starting at £279.99 for the Huawei Watch GT Sport.
